CBM & Fish
Little is known about the impact of CBM development on fish such as salmon. However, a study conducted in B.C.'s Elk Valley showed that treated wastewater from a CBM test well was fatal to rainbow trout.
About Coalbed Methane
Coalbed methane is a type of gas trapped underground in coal deposits. Getting it out of the ground is difficult, and in other places has caused serious environmental impacts.
Already 20+ test wells have been drilled north of Elkford, and that area is poised to become the first commercial CBM development in all of B.C.
BP Canada was planning to drill exploratory wells this spring. Largely due to your efforts their plans have now been delayed until the spring of 2009.
